A highly entertaining 800+ page read. It was the first LitRPG book, and though preconceptions about the genre made me cringe for the first few pages, once I dropped them, I became so engaged I bested my own personal record for fastest reading by number of pages.

Reading The Path of Ascension felt like playing an Incremental game. The story is linear and lacks depth, but is highly addictive.

The story follows Matt, a young orphan from a low-level planet. By virtue of luck, he rises fast, gaining abilities reserved for the most powerful, recruiting virtually impossible companions, and befriending the daughter of the most powerful beings in the world.

If you read for intellectual stimulation, you’ll want to read The Path of Ascension alongside technical or non-fiction books.
